A few houses at Chew Jetty were destroyed after the fire broke out last week. I visited the site together with YB Teh Yue Chew (State Assemblyman for Tanjong Bungah) and Architect Ong Bak Kim.
The residents assured us that they will restore it to the original setup. We are quite concerned as the heritage elements for Chew jetty have to be preserved as Georgetown is the UNESCO heritage site.
THe lady onwer assured us that she will not replace the antique red door as it is inherited from her grandfather time.
I am also pleasantly surprise to find out that there is a website dedicated for Chew Jetty.

So sorry to hear about the fire. My sister and I(from Australia) had the great pleasure of visiting here in Oct 06 and loved the senerity and history of the place.
